Just bought it for running a Solo Game. Appreciate your thoughts and agree with a lot of things. The thing about narrative focused games is that they tend to be system agnostic. They even used experiencea as you can find in games like Loner or Tricube Tales. Overall I think it is somewhat similar to Ironsworn but as you said, with a bit more crunch. The campaign frames are awesome but also something that I am not sure if I will try when starting a solo adventure. I like it a bit more simple.
I'd be super interested in how you find this game to be as a solo game. As I read through it I couldn't decide if it would be really good, or really bad solo.
I do agree that much of this system seems like it borrows on ideas from other games, cleans them up, and adjusts them to work well together.
Thanks, interesting article. Just read about this game and thought about getting it for solo play, but upon reading your rundown of it, it seems like it might be a miss in that regard, so I'll pass.
I kind of agree. At least from my perspective this would definitely be a harder system to play solo. Not impossible and if it works for you, I'm sure you'd have a lot of fun, but I personally think it would take a lot more work than many other systems out there.
Ok, wow, that was A LOT! But I appreciate the brain dump. I’m pretty much sold on Daggerheart (enough to buy it), but like you I’ve struggled with getting into previous iterations of PbtA games (and for the same reasons you mention).
Thank you for the deep analysis. It confirms my suspicions and reinforces my choice to back The Broken Empires over Daggerheart.
Glad you liked it!

A brilliant read, I can imagine this being a fantastic reference for the future!
Thanks for the summary. Have saved to do a deep dive later but it's helped me understand the system a lot more then I did!
Awesome!!!
And I totally get saving it for late...this was a long one LOL
Excellent article! Really appreciate the deep dive you did and I agree with you about goblins. Good or bad, it’s fun when they are chaotic! 😊
Thanks!!!!
Ya...gimme those little chaos gremlins hahahaaa

Glad you liked it, but ya, it was a lot to write.
I almost didn't post it because of that but figure it was better to put it out there and have no-one read it, than never post it at all.
